New Trail: Redwood Creek Loop on Modern Hiker

Hello friends and Happy Friday! I'm proud to share with you that my first trail description for Modern Hiker has been published! Here is the link to a 6.8 mile, 1100-foot elevation gain loop at Muir Woods National Monument. I chose to write about Muir Woods because of the beautiful tall coast redwoods and its compelling story of becoming a national monument. To learn more about how the monument came to be and what makes it special, click the link above!

I'm really enjoying the wealth of historical information that's available about trails in the Bay Area. The History and Culture page for Muir Woods, for example, provided an in-depth, historical study on the history of Muir Woods National Monument, as well as letters exchanged between President Theodore Roosevelt, William Kent, and John Muir. While it's a challenge choosing which historical tidbits to include and condensing information, it's also so enriching learning historic details about a hike and weaving them into trail write-ups.

It feels pretty amazing joining the team at Modern Hiker, and seeing my work published on www.modernhiker.com. At the same time, the most rewarding experience from this new opportunity so far has been taking my friend Pooja, and her daughter, Eesha, on another girls hike to Muir Woods.

We had so much fun seeing the redwoods and sniffing California bay laurel, which smells just like the bay leaves you buy at a supermarket. I loved spending time with them, and learned how nice a feeling it was to take my friends through a beautiful outdoor space and to share what I had learned with them.

In keeping with our girls hike tradition, we drove to Mill Valley afterwards for a post-hike breakfast at Kitchen Sunnyside. I got salmon avocado toast, Pooja got eggs benedict, and Eesha also got avocado toast. Our consensus was a resounding DELICIOUS and I would go there again after a visit to Muir Woods (especially since they had really good espresso too).

Stay tuned for more updates as my trail descriptions around San Francisco are published on Modern Hiker! Thank you for following along, and for your support :)
