Hi! I'm Melissa (and that's my husband, Onur). I like stripey socks, dark chocolate, snow, and peanut butter. I'm passionate about exploring new places, trying new sports, meeting pups on the trail, reaching high summits with spectacular mountain views, and sharing these places with others though writing and photography.

I'm originally from North Salem, New York, and I fell in love with hiking in Washington State when I hiked to the summit of Mount St. Helens for the first time. Since then, I've hiked over 1500 miles throughout the state, from beachside strolls to alpine lakes to mountain summits.

Since 2015, I've been a hiking guide correspondent and contributor to the Washington Trails Association. In addition to writing, I enjoy photographing trailscapes and capturing a hike’s distinctive personality. In my free time I'm usually scouring the weather forecasts, planning my next hike, and downloading podcasts and audiobooks to listen to on my drives to hikes. I also enjoy cooking and baking, stand-up paddle boarding, playing piano, and going for walks with Onur.
